It includes an early history, a section on black communities, contributions to work, church, education, military, and sports, and arts and science. Along the way, personal and family histories are detailed. There are vintage photographs throughout the text. And individuals are identified by name. The appendices contain references to the slave trade, statistics on black miners, war veterans, and some personal accounts of escape from slavery. The bibliography includes valuable references on the subject. Overall, a very good copy with only light signs of use at the edges of the covers.…
