Jean-Pierre Eppele (1929 - 2012) was a French painter, draftsman, and sculptor known for his introspective and expressive depictions of the human condition. Influenced by his time as a set painter in the film industry and his encounter with Jean Dubuffet, Eppelé developed a distinctive style blending raw emotion with meticulous technique. His work, often featuring solitary figures in melancholic settings, was inspired by Egyptian Fayum portraits and themes of existential reflection. He exhibited widely in France and Europe, taught at Villa Arson in Nice (1964 - 1992), and settled in Arles in 1998, where he continued to paint until his death.
