Cpl. mit 10 chromolithogr. Ansichten (Leporello, Gesamtgröße 115 x 16,5, Blattgröße 16,5 x 11,5, Bildausschnitt ca. 9,8 x 15 cm; optisch entsteht der Eindruck eines Passepartouts). OLn; rotfarbige Original-Leinenmappe mit goldgeprägtem Titel (rückseitig in Blindprägung: H. Scheibe, Wien), Leporello (die einzelnen Abbildungen mit Leinenfälzen verbunden), vorderseitig betitelt, rückseitig Angaben zum Künstler, Lithograph, Verlag und Drucker, die 10 Tafeln unnumeriert; Kapital minimal berieben, hinterer Deckel des Mäppchen mit Feuchtigkeitsfleck, infolgedessen die letzte Tafel "Mürzzuschlag" an linker Kante miminal rötlich verfärbt, ohne Beeinträchtigung des Bildmotivs, sonst in sehr gutem Zustand. Nebehay-Wagner 946 (in Leporello, ohne Titelblatt und Text erschienen), Dreyer 822 (ohne Nennung von A. Gerasch), nicht bei Imhof, Perret. Die 10 Tafeln zeigen: Payerbach - Klamm - Schottwien mit Sonnwendstein - Schneeberg - Weinzettelwand - Adlitzgraben - Semmering Hotel - Raxalpe vom Semmering Hotel - Station Semmering - Mürzzuschlag. Lt. Nebehay-Wagner sind "die Tafeln ohne Zeichner-, Lithographen- oder Verlagsvermerk"; weiters vermerkt N-W., daß "die Angabe, daß die Tafeln nach Aquarellen von August Gerasch lithographiert wurden, aus einer Ankündigung des Verlages V. A. Heck stammen würde". In unserem Exemplar finden sich jedoch alle diese Angaben auf der Rückseite der Tafeln! Die vorliegenden Motive finden sich nicht im später (1887-1894) erschienenen Ansichtenwerk Gerasch` "Die österreichische Gebirgswelt" (vgl. N.-W. 195). Seltenes Souvenir-Album mit reizenden Ansichten der Semmering-Bahn.

Gezeigt wird: Payerbach, Klamm, Schottwien mit Sonnwendstein, Schneeberg, Weinzettelwand, Adlitzgraben, Semmering Hotel, Raxalpe vom Semmering Hotel, Station Semmering und Mürzzuschlag. Das Leporello erschien ohne Titel- und Textblätter. Den Chromolithographien liegen Aquarelle des Wiener Landschafts- u. Genremalers August Gerasch d. Ä. (1828-1908) zu Grunde. Gewicht in Gramm: 500.

Italien und seine Bewohner (Italy and its Inhabitants). Vienna, [1840]. First edition. Oblong quarto (12 1/2 x 20 1/8 inches; 318 x 511 mm.). 30 pp. Fourteen superb hand colored lithograph plates. Small water-stain on top blank margin of last three text leaves, some light scattered foxing affecting a few text leaves and blank margins of plates only. First leaf of text with lower blank corner expertly repaired. Contemporary quarter brown cloth over mottled boards, cloth corner tips, spine lettered in gilt. Inner hinge cracked, some wear to spine and corner extremities. An extremely rare suite of plates recording the various costumes typical to the different regions of Italy. Each plate is accompanied by a descriptive text in German offering further information on the typical customs, trade and geographical attributes of the locales depicted. The highly colored plates, include illustrations of the inhabitants of Malta which used to be part of Italy. Apparently the Lipperheide copy has been lost, so now there appears to be only one other known copy which is housed at the Österreichische akademie der wissenschaften (Austrian Academy of Sciences) in Vienna. Their record suggests the present publication was originally intended to be part I of a larger series titled Panorama aller Völker Europas, however the lack of other known parts suggests that this plan never came to fruition and the series was ultimately scrapped.
