Rares livraisons de la revue littéraire bordelaise bi-mensuelle fondée par Edmond Géraud (1775-1831), littérateur bordelais, issu d'une famille de négociants et d'armateurs protestants, en partie réfugiée en Hollande aprčs la révocation de l'Edit de Nantes, dont le domaine familial "Belle allée" était situé sur la rive droite de Bordeaux. Géraud, qui avait séjourné ŕ Paris au début de la Révolution, avait créé ŕ son retour ŕ Bordeaux le "Journal d'un étudiant pendant la révolution", puis avait dirigé le "Mémorial bordelais", journal royaliste fondé ŕ la faveur de la journée du 12 mars 1814. Géraud, dans le prospectus de lancement de la Ruche d'Aquitaine en 1817 justifie le positionnement du bi-mensuel. C'est un journal de "littérature et de sciences", loin des "cabales parisiennes", dans lequel la politique est exclue. L'ordonnance de 1815 d'ailleurs, en pleine réaction ultra, n'autorisait qu'un seul journal politique par département, place occupée ŕ Bordeaux par le "Mémorial bordelais". La revue de 40 pages de format in-8 s'articule autour de la littérature, de la poésie, de récits de voyages, d'actualités bordelaises et de sa région. "La Ruche bordelaise" se transformera en 1819 en quotidien de tendance royaliste ŕ la faveur de la suppression de la censure. La publication s'arrętera en 1823. Exemplaire intéressant pour l'histoire de la presse bordelaise ŕ l'issue de la Révolution. Le prospectus précise l'intention de la revue : "Lorsque tous les esprits, lassés de troubles et de discussions politiques, ne demandent qu'ŕ se reposer enfin dans le maintien du gouvernement légitime, il semble que le moment ne sauroit ętre mieux choisi pour appeler l'attention vers les arts utiles, et nous réconcilier avec ces jouissances paisibles que promet la culture des lettres". On y trouve de nombreux compte-rendus ainsi que des extraits d'ouvrage (par exemple du "Nouveau Voyage dans l'intérieur de l'Afrique, fait en 1810, 1811, 1812, 1813 et 1814, ou Relation de Robert Adams" ; et de nombreux essais pleins d'esprit, tel celui-ci, sur l'Horloge : "Charles-Quint vait toujours eu un goűt trčs vif pour les horloges. On raconte męme qu'aprčs son abdication, il s'amusoit ŕ en construire dans sa retraite de Saint-Just, et qu'il se consoloit aussi de ses retours d'ambition. Il y domina la période de la Restauration aussi bien par ses portraits et miniatures de la haute société bordelaise que par ses gravures et lithographies mettant en scčne le petit peuple au travers de costumes et de métiers de la rue. Il mourut avant d'avoir terminé l'album vignicole qui fut continué par un de ses élčves Pierre-Eugčne Claveau (1820-1902), puis par Gorse et J. Philippe. Exemplaire en reliure d'époque sans la couverture qui sert de titre.Provenance : comtesse de Pancemont, née Amélie-Joseph Renaud de Boucly (ex-libris héraldique), marié le 28 janvier 1789 ŕ Jean-Baptiste, François Mayneaud de Pancemont, Président ŕ mortier au Parlement de Dijon sous l'Ancien Régime. L'empereur le nomme premier président de la cour d'appel de Nîmes en 1806 et maître des requętes au Conseil d?État. Il est créé baron d'Empire le 31 décembre 1809. Le 11 avril 1820 il est fait comte de Pancemont.Bel exemplaire, les planches 21 ŕ 32 sont reliées dans le désordre.
