Ein Beispiel für den erreichten hohen Leistungs stand bietet die Bundesrepublik Deutschland: Der Selbstwählverkehr ist im inländischen Fernsprechnetz vollständig verwirklicht, und 9.1% aller Auslands-Fernsprechverbindungen werden von den Teilnehmern selbst gewählt. Dies alles gelang im wesentlichen mit den 'klassischen' Elementen der Vermittlungstechnik, mit elektromechanischen Wäh lern und Relais.
