Hardcover. Condition: Fair. First Edition First Printing. Quarto. 421 pages. Hardcover bound in dark brown cloth with cover designs embossed in gilt. The binding is quite worn and bumped, and the edges are abraded. The front hinge is split 4 inches from the foot of the spine running up. Lacks the front flyleaf. The title page is chipped and appears to have been pasted to the gutter of the front pastedown. The fore and bottom edges of the leaf for pages xiii / xiv are reinforced with old clear tape. Contains all 22 full-page portrait engravings as called for.
