Add to basketHard Back. Condition: Fair. First Edition. Title page + 2 page list of illustrations + 7 single sided pages of details of each illustration ( except last one ) + 40 single sided pages of tinted litho. illustrations. Condition poor as published using "gutter percha" which as normal has perished, so pages detached, with some edge damage, some edge folding, edge tears, and staining, most pages with foxing, SEE ALL SCANS, all ills. Present & poss all pages, with 2 end pages front & 2 rear, 1st endpage has an 1873 gift inscription from A.J. Warner and folded. 2nd front endpage is folded & torn almost in two. The book is published by Edward Stanford and undated, 7 pages details of each illustration is Pub. By Roake and Varty, 38 illustrations are published by Varty the last two by Stanford & title page by Stanford. It would seem that it was originally published in 1832-3 by Thomas Varty, then in 1873 Edward Stanford published this edition with 2 extra illustrations ( also by John Gilbert) published by themselves, & their own Title page, with all other pages from Varty ( most likely he obtained a stash of unsold & unbound copies by Varty & then Stanford added his own Title page and added his own illustrations of reign of King George IV & Queen Victoria. Each plate illustrates a Period, many with Autographs of the Sovereigns and the most distinguished Characters. Very rare, as gutter percha deteriorated, most copies have been split up and single illustrated pages sold for up to £140 or more for each good page. At time of listing I could not find another copy the same. Just one similar damaged copy, but with only 29 plates & only one? Text page ). As folio/large book, extra postage for outside U.K. ( if outside U.K. please email me before ordering stating country it will go to ).
