Over 3 journeys in the 1600s Lithgow travelled through most of Europe, the Middle East and Holy Land, North Africa (including Morocco, Egypt and Libya). A shotened account of his first 'peregrination' was published in 1614, and a selection of his travels were published in Hakluyts Posthumus of 1625. Not until 1632 was the first full version published. As well as fascinating accounts of travel he tells of his capture and torment by the Spanish at Malaga under the Inquisition. Size: 8vo.
