Bound in the original thin printed blue paper covers and running to 24 pages this is a very scarce work by George Murray who was Minister at Balmaclellan, a village in Galloway, Scotland, he was also Chaplain of Kirkcudbrightshire Rifles. The poem is about the triumphant building of a bridge across the River Dee, where previously the only way to cross was by ferry, which was a very hazardous, there is another poem added by a William Gillespie called The Ken, which is also about the building of a bridge over that nearby river, the poems cover the first 12 pages, the second half of the work contains notes on the poem. There is a dedication at the front which reads. 'To the Ladies of the Stewartry who, with kind hearts and willing hands, largely promoted the building of a Bridge over the Dee at Kircudbright, this Ballad is respectfully inscribed by the author.' The covers have some marking, and creasing wear at corners with a small area of loss at top rear cover (pictured), internally some light marking and foxing, with some page corner curling, else in good acceptable condition. Only one copy located in institutional library collections, that is the one held in the University of Glasgow Library. A VERY SCARCE WORK, ESPECIALLY IN ITS ORIGINAL PRINTED WRAPPERS.
