Hiroshi Gimaha (1923-2017) is a Woodblock print artist born in Okinawa. He was born in Okinawa but worked in Saipan during the Japanese colonial period as a stage designer for theater troupes. When the war broke out, he returned to Japan, but did not return to Okinawa and studied painting and printmaking in Osaka. After the war, hearing about the Battle of Okinawa, he decided to create works related to the war and customs of Okinawa, and from then until his death, he continued to create works related to Okinawa.
