Edition originale en librairie de cette thèse novatrice et qui fut très remarquée. Cette monographie est très documentée avec de nombreuses références bibliographiques en bas de page. Gingeot explique qu'il fut associé, en tant qu'interne, aux prudentes expériences de Béhier sur l'emploi de l'alcool dans les affections fébriles de l'adulte et qu'il obtint de son nouveau chef, à l'hôpital des Enfants, l'autorisation d'appliquer ce traitement (eau-de-vie diluée) à ses jeunes patients. Dans une première partie, l'auteur retrace l'histoire de l'utilisation de l'alcool en médecine, insiste sur les travaux de Todd et rapporte 16 observations détaillées. Dans la seconde partie, Gingeot expose, d'après les travaux des physiologistes, les principaux phénomènes pouvant expliquer les effets observés. Paul Gingeot (1838-1899) deviendra médecin des hôpitaux de Paris et médecin personnel de Louis d'Orléans. Cf.
