This is the Book-of-the-Month Club selection of "Hound-dog Man" , a novel by Fred Gipson that was published in 1949 by Harper & Brothers. The book's dust-jacket art is a remarkably nostalgic image; the artist's name in the plate is quite blurry, but my best assumption is that the artist was R. John Hohngren, an esteemed American illustrator who did a number of works for Harper. The author of the book, Fred Gipson, was also the author of "Old Yeller", as well as a number of other well-received books. The story is immediate, true, and heart-tugging. Lots of old Texas dialect , which should tickle the kin-bones of a 'whole lotta folk'. No signatures; DUST-JACKET -- There are small nicks and tears and three or so spots of loss along the top edge; the rear panel is somewhat weathered, and the spine panel is a bit faded. The whole is enclosed in clear mylar sleeve to ensure against further wear.
