Il testo del volume, guidato da indubbi intenti apologetici, contiene il resoconto della breve malattia, della morte e dei funerali del sovrano, nonché un'accurata descrizione degli apparati realizzati, incredibilmente sfarzosi e complessi, considerando la brevissima durata delle cerimonie. Forse il più grandioso libro torinese di feste, anche se funebre in questo caso, illustr. da grandi e splendide tavole; particolarmente notevole è la raffig. del corteo funebre, quasi un pretesto per la realizzazione della veduta della piazza Castello, con la preziosa particolarità di potervi osservare la situazione architettonica prima degli interventi che hanno successivamente mutato l'aspetto di molti edifici, se non addirittura prima della costruzione di alcuni di essi.
