Two very scarce early nineteenth century works on dentistry and prosthetic teeth, including a report on the advancements made by Fonzi, and his response to criticisms levelled against him. In the original French. Two very scarce works loosely inserted in a cloth covered portfolio. The first of these two works is 'Rapport sur les Dents Artificielles, Terro-Metalliques de la Composition de M. This twelve page work is an extract from the register of deliberations of the Paris Academy of Medicine. It offers the report of a commission appointed by the Paris Athanaeum to assess the work of Sicilian dental surgeon and dental technician Giuseppangelo Fonzi. In 1795, Fonzi moved to Paris to practice his profession of dentistry, and began to produce what he termed 'terro-metallic teeth', and created ceramic dentures and metallic mechanisms to attach them to the mouth. The Garrison Morton medical bibliography terms this 'an historical document of capital importance concerning the invention of mineral teeth'.The second work is by Fonzi himself, and relates to an ongoing rivalry between Fonzi and Napoleon's own dentist, Dubois-Foucou. Fonzi offers a rebuttal to attacks levelled against him by Dubois-Foucou.With the handwritten date '14. Mais 1808' to the tail of the first leaf.
