L'autore prende in esame 111 speci…e, ordinate secondo una classificazione tripartita, uccelli terrestri non rapaci, terrestri rapaci e acquatici, ciascun gruppo introdotto da elegante frontespizio in cornice figurata; l'ampio corredo calcografico rende visivamente sistematica tale suddivisione, offrendo una documentazione iconografica tra le più precoci e organiche nel panorama italiano del primo Settecento. Alla trattazione ornitologica segue, con autonomo avvio tipografico, una serie di osservazioni sulle cavallette, completate da una dissertazione finale e da tavole illustrative dedicate alle diverse fasi di sviluppo dell'insetto, che ampliano l'interesse scientifico del volume nel quadro della trattatistica naturalistica coeva. Volume un po' sciolto, ma bellissima copia come nuova, intonsa ed in gran parte ancora a fogli chiusi.Prima edizione del primo libro interamente dedicato alle uova e ai nidi degli uccelli. Questi sono suddivisi in tre gruppi: rapaci terrestri, altri uccelli terrestri ed uccelli acquatici. Ogni tavola illustra da una a nove uova, per un totale di 111 specie.Giuseppe Ginanni (o Zinanni) nacque a Ravenna nel 1692. Dopo gli studi compiuti nel collegio dei nobili di Ravenna, diretto dai gesuiti, nrl 1715 si recò a Padova dove conobbe Antonio Vallisneri, che lo indirizzò agli studi naturalistici. Nel giardino della propria casa Ginammi costituì un vero e proprio giardino botanico, che andò via via ampliando e arricchendo di piante anche esotiche, ottenute da Giulio Pontedera, prefetto dell'orto botanico di Padova. Nel 1732 entrò in rapporto con il botanico fiorentino Pier Antonio Micheli, cui fornì numerose piante del territorio ravennate. Oltre al Vallisneri e al Micheli, sul Ginanni esercitò una grande influenza anche Giovanni Bianchi (Janus Plancus), considerato un'autorità nel campo della biologia marina. Tra il 1732 e il 1737 si dedicò a osservazioni sulle cavallette e alla raccolta di uova e di nidi di uccelli. Si recò poi a Venezia per seguire personalmente la pubblicazione dell'opera in cui aveva esposto questi suoi studi. L'opera gli procurò ampia fama come naturalista e nel 1737 lo fece aggregare all'Accademia dell'Istituto delle Scienze di Bologna. Ginanni si dedicò in seguito allo studio di molluschi, brachiopodi ed altri animali marini, ma anche di insetti, fossili ed alghe. Queste sue ricerche lasciate inedite furono pubblicate postume in due volumi dal nipote Francesco Ginanni (Venezia, 1757) (cfr. G.
