In tale contesto, è il santo stesso a farsi 'architettura',…e quella sua mano alzata sul cielo viene ad acquisire un risalto inedito, per di più sfaccettata dalla luce com'è. Alla Giambattista Piazzetta? Come un 'ricordo' di tanta pittura, giovanile e non, dello stesso nostro Tiepolo, che bene ha guardato all'arte del più anziano maestro, confermandosi anche pittore che ben percepisce e visualizza pure il 'sacro'. Tornando alla posizione della gamba troncata: persino disgustosa, si potrebbe dire, tanto è in evidenza di contro al saio del santo, che sulla tela viene a formare una macchia enorme di non colore. L'artista recupera, tuttavia, dal disegno preparatorio, la sua conformazione, posizionandola di contro al saio, così che pure il contrasto cromatico fra candida epidermide e marron scuro della stoffa risultasse più netto. E, correlata al tutto, la visibilissima scure in primo piano, che già compariva nel bozzetto, ma come abbandonata a terra, mentre nella pala, invece, assume ruolo di protagonista». Libro.
