This stunning masterpiece depicts a victorious cavalryman charging into battle, with a fallen foe lying at his feet and a horde of opposing soldiers and horses fleeing. The author presents a fresh take on the scene, interpreting it as an event from the Battle of Arbela, not the Battle of Issus, as was previously believed. The mosaic, likely created shortly after Alexander the Great's death, captures the decisive moment when Alexander's victory over King Darius III of Persia was all but assured. The book masterfully intertwines historical accounts with meticulous analysis of the artwork, demonstrating that the scene portrayed is not, in fact, a singular event, as previously believed, but rather an amalgamation of several pivotal moments from that historic battle. This enlightening perspective adds depth to our understanding of one of antiquity's most famous conflicts. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. This book offers a comprehensive overview of libraries and the essential role they play in preserving and organizing knowledge throughout history. The author begins by examining the evolution of libraries from ancient times to the present day, exploring their origins in Egypt, Greece, and Rome, and tracing their transformation into the vast repositories of knowledge we know today. The book delves into the intricate systems used to classify and catalog books, providing valuable insights into the principles that govern how libraries organize and manage their collections. It also examines the important role of librarians as gatekeepers of knowledge, discussing the skills and expertise required to navigate the complex world of library resources. Beyond its historical and technical aspects, the book explores the profound impact that libraries have had on human civilization. It argues that libraries are not merely storehouses of books but dynamic centers of learning and intellectual exchange. By providing access to a vast array of ideas and perspectives, libraries empower individuals to expand their knowledge, challenge conventional wisdom, and contribute to the advancement of society. Through a combination of historical analysis, practical guidance, and philosophical reflection, this book illuminates the enduring importance of libraries as guardians of our collective knowledge and as catalysts for human progress. It is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of knowledge, the organization of information, or the transformative power of libraries. Rilegato. Condition: ottimo. prima edizione. Napoli, Dalla Tipografia di Angelo Trani, 1827. In-8° (23,2 cm x 14 cm). Esemplare fresco e genuino, ancora in barbe.
