Condition: Gut. reprinted,. 8 text pages, 24 full-page black and white photos with description, cover of age-related wear and unfresh, Thomas Gainsborough (Sudbury, Suffolk, May 14, 1727 London, August 2, 1788) was an English artist, best known for his portraits and landscapes. Along with Sir Joshua Reynolds, Gainsborough was one of the most important and successful British artists of the 18th century. Around 1740, Thomas Gainsborough moved from Suffolk to London to study art. He lived there until 1746. Gainsborough was influenced by Dutch and Flemish masters and the French printmaker Hubert Gravelot. Thomas Gainsborough mostly created large-scale portraits that depicted people from head to toe. Later, under the influence of artists such as Van Dyck and Rubens, his work became more personal. The colors became warmer and the compositions more complex. Thomas Gainsborough was one of the founders of the Royal Academy of Arts. He often worked on commission. "Blue Boy" from 1770 is one of Gainsborough's most famous paintings. The artistic movements of Romanticism and Classicism are most clearly reflected in his work. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 60 12° (14x11 cm), paperback edition.
