About the book >.>.> This is the first exhibition devoted to all aspects of the work of both Arthur and Georgie Gaskin and the first covering Arthur's artistic output since the Memorial Exhibition in 1929. The latter was overwhelmingly devoted to pictures at the expense of illustration, metalwork and jewellery. Much the most comprehensive display of the metalwork and jewellery by both Gaskins to date was that section devoted to them in the Birmingham Assay Office Bicentenary exhibition, Birmingham Gold and Silver 1773-1973. although the pioneering exhibition in this direction was that on Victorian and Edwardian decorative arts, held at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1952, when nine pieces by the Gaskins were included. The major contribution of Arthur and Georgie Gaskin to the arts lies in the areas of illustration, metalwork and jewellery and this exhibition is, therefore, deliberately biased in their favour. Other parts, however, are not neglec.
