Condition: Fair. 2nd Edition. 283 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. Pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with light foxing. Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn with slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are a mildly crushed, with small splits and chips. Light tanning to spine and edges.

Glover was a popular Governor of Lagos amongst the native populations and was supported in his rule where other colonial administrators were not. In 1857 prior to his governorship he accompanied William Balfour Backie in his exploration of the Niger, higher than any Europeans had previously, this book is created from his journals of the expedition. Includes 22*b/w photographs and illustrations. xiii+230pp. Blue cloth boards with light shelf-wear to edges. Spine cloth is sunned. Upper board is lightly bowed. Preliminary pages foxed. Splitting to the lower hinge of several pages have left the boards fully attached to the text-block but a little tender.
