Soft cover. Condition: Good. A classic mid-century instructional art manual by television personality and art educator Jon Gnagy, whose PBS and syndicated television lessons introduced millions of Americans to drawing fundamentals. Beginning with simple geometric forms, the book progresses through perspective, shading, cast shad…ows, landscapes, buildings, animals, the human figure, portraiture, and composition in Gnagy's accessible step-by-step style. The volume also retains an original fold-out Weber Artists' Color Mixing Guide, illustrating the three-primary color system and practical palettes for landscapes and figure painting. This copy is particularly desirable because it includes three original laid-in pieces of publisher ephemera promoting additional Weber instructional materials: Two original F. Weber Creative Art Instruction Sets brochures (variant printings), illustrating the complete line of boxed instructional art kits available from Visual Arts Industries. One original Weber World of Art promotional brochure, showcasing Weber art supplies, instructional books, paints, brushes, and accessories. These original inserts were intended as advertising material and are frequently discarded, making surviving examples an appealing bonus for collectors of Jon Gnagy, Weber art products, and mid-century art education. The book is graded Good+. Covers show moderate handling wear, scattered staining, edge rubbing, small chips, and corner wear. The staple binding remains sound, pages are complete, and the interior is generally clean with expected age toning. The fold-out color chart remains intact with light handling wear. No missing pages. No publication date is shown, but the advertisements for Weber instructional products and art sets indicate a mid-1960s printing (approximately 1964-1966). This appears to be an early Weber-issued edition rather than a later reprint. Jon Gnagy (1907-1981) is widely regarded as America's first television art instructor. Beginning with You Are an Artist in 1946, he pioneered televised art instruction decades before Bob Ross and inspired generations of beginning artists through his books, television programs, and instructional art kits. His publications remain highly collectible among enthusiasts of art education and twentieth-century Americana.
