Premier tirage du plus bel illustré romantique toulousain, imprimé sur papier vélin. Le texte occitan est suivi de sa traduction en regard. Le volume est terminé par un précieux Dictiounari moundi ou Dictionnaire de la langue toulousaine, principalement les mots les plus éloignés du français, avec leur explication, d?une cinquantaine de pages. L?illustration comprend un titre-frontispice, un portrait de l'auteur et 14 figures hors texte sur Chine appliqué, le tout lithographié par Léon Soulié et Delor d'après Perrin et Bida. Le barreau ne retint que peu de temps le poète toulousain Pierre Godolin (1580-1649). Son premier recueil parut en 1617 et connut un succès immédiat, qui fit de lui le chef de file de la poésie occitane. «Enjoué, spirituel, homme de plaisir plutôt qu'homme d'étude», dit Hoefer, il fut le protégé et l'ami d'Adrien de Montluc. On raconte que ce dernier, lorsqu'il fut embastillé par Richelieu, récitait, en les traduisant, des vers de Godolin à Bassompierre, son compagnon de captivité. La réputation du poète occitan était alors considérable. Très bel exemplaire, sans rousseurs et conservé dans une élégante reliure décorée du temps.
