Goetzmann (1729-1794) reste célèbre pour le procès qui l'opposa à Beaumarchais à l'issue duquel il dut se démettre de sa charge judiciaire. Le copiste du mémoire inséré in fine nous désigne son auteur : "le Cardinal de Mailli, archevêque duc de Reims [François de Mailly-Nesle (1658-1721), ultramontain notoire] . pour indisposer toujours plus les ducs contre le Parlement à qui on ne pouvait manquer d'attribuer cet offensant ouvrage".
