Sm4to. vi, 7-808pp. Nine engravings including frontispiece are listed on the last page with directions for their placement; however, other than the frontispiece (with tissue-guard) after the Preface and before the first page of the text. In original cloth co…vered boards and spine with paper label. Cloth may have been red, now very faded, soiled and stained overall. Edges at head and tail of board spine are split and chipping. Lower end of back spine fold has a 2 1/4" peal from paper over text block. Rub-throughs on several places on board edges, including most of the lower edges, and all fore-edge corners. External page edges are soiled- and age-darkened and with some foxing. End papers are grubby and with faint small damp stains, scuffs and pencil/erasures. The first engraving (after pg. vi of Preface) is mostly separated from the gutter except for 3/4" at the upper edge. Internal foxing mostly on several of the first and last pages and the engravings.
