Solomon and Company bookseller sticker on bottom of front pastedown endpaper. Very heavy paper allowing for a beautiful dark strike for both the Introduction (54 pages) and Charts:. Introduction to the Astronomical Observations, Royal Observatory, Cape of Good Hope in Year 1856. and Royal Observatory Cape of Good Hope Separate Results for Mean N.P.D. of Stars Observed in the Year 1856. Also contains Obervations of the Right Ascension of the Moon's Limb and the Moon-Culminating Stars and Occultations of the Stars for 1856; and Obervations of Encke's Comet made with the 8.1/2 feet Equatorial in 1855 and the rear of the book. This was first published in 1870 after a change in the longstanding leadership of the Observatory who had not published any of its observations. This is the first in a series of subsequent publications. Book in at least very good condition with the usual fugitive purple colour fading and some staining. The truck is hauling metal pipe. The landscape visible surrounding the road ahead is scattered with four drilling rig towers.
