    First edition. Octavo. Unpaginated. One of 725 numbered copies. Title-page and seven copper engravings, with tissue guards, by Stephen Gooden. Parchment-backed gold paper boards. Gooden's first illustrated book, which Francis Meynell considered his finest. These are the first examples of the strapwork borders and cartouches which are often found in Gooden's work. Bookplate on front free endpaper; small nameplate on front pastedown. Very good indeed in very good plain gold dustwrapper nicked and rubbed at the edges.

    First edition. Small quarto. Royal octavo. 313 pages. Title-page and eleven full-page copper engravings, numerous decorative initials by Stephen Gooden. Full vellum, gilt cover design of fox at centre with clusters of grapes at the corners, gilt rules, raised bands, lettered in gilt. Top edge gilt. Printed on handmade paper by Walter Lewis at the Cambridge University Press. The text follows the corrected seventh edition of 1724. This is rightly considered one of Gooden's finest works.One of 525 numbered copies signed by the artist. Covers bowed. Faint off-setting from larger plates onto pages opposite. Near fine.

One of 1000 sets printed on Japon vellum (The Apochrypha is one of 1250 copies) from a total edition of 1075 copies. The typography was arranged by Frances Meynell. Each volume decorated with copperplate engravings by Stephen Gooden, including the title pages. A lovely clean set finely bound in recent full black morocco, decorative gilt border to boards. Spines with raised bands, each with decorative gilt piping and ruling. Red title labels, gilt. Top edges gilt, others untrimmed. A beautiful set.
