This book is an accounting of the reminiscences of C.W. Goodlander who came to Fort Scott in 1858 and passed away in 1914. This book only covers his time to 1899. During this time he was mostly a building contractor and he tells of the development of Fort Scott. He also tells of the Border Ruffian raids before and during the Civil War and of General Price's raid on Fort Scott and the coming of the MKT railroad. A good look at the frontier life of Fort Scott, KS. A clean pristine copy.

Cloth - Soft Cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1900 reprint of this title first published in 1899. 145+ pages. This edition includes significantly more content as well as additional photographs, than the 1899 edition. The author who owned the Goodlander hotel in Fort Scott used this edition as a promotion for his hotel. This copy has a presentation slip tipped in at the front, "Compliments of the season / Yours Truly / Central Coal & Coke Co. / Kansas City Mo. / Dec. 25 1901." Cloth covers show a little rubbing on edges. General very light use/wear.

Red flexible cloth bound book gilt title and illustration of the Goodlander Hotel on the front cover. "Compliments of the Goodlander" slip tipped in between the right front flyleaf and the verso of the frontispiece. Inner cords are showing but the text is still firmly bound. The first edition (1899) is scarce. A few copies were printed as Christmas gifts for friends and contained 79 pages. Contents include information on the the Border Ruffians and Jayhawker conflicts.
