No store stamps.--- HERE'S THE FIRST FEW SENTENCES --- --- It started ten years ago, right after Ploesti. Nothing made sense. When I got out of the hospital I was a civilian with perforations. Officially these were in a thighbone and a lung. To me they were ubiquitous, eye, brain, all the senses, perforations. Life was borrowed, flat, one big hole in the sky, impertinent, unnecessary. Take it easy, they said. Take a job, they said. Do something constructive, they said. Do nothing for a while, they said. None of them said, You should have got it with all your friends. It was just Lucky Sam Freeman, that Freeman luck pulled you through, didn't it, they said.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This romantic suspense story, set in a thinly disguised fictional version of Nepal, is by a Hubin listed author who is best known for his original story "Shadow of a Doubt" which was filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1943. That's an interesting story in itself, but is too much of a digression to go into here! McDonell was born in the U.K. but moved to the U.S., so some of his books were published first in the U.K. This one is the true first edition, coming out the following year in the U.K. from Harrap. A near fine copy in a very good, price-clipped dust jacket with what looks like a grease stain on lower part of the rear panel. There is also some slight wear to edges and extremities and internally repaired tears to rear panel.
