Add to basketCloth. Condition: Very Good Indeed. Gordon Home; Frank Greenwood; W. G. Blackall (illustrator). First edition. Three fascinating and beautifully illustrated volumes from A. and C. Black's 'The "Charm" Series'; all complete with the original dustwrappers. A. and C. Black were a renowned British book publishing company best known for their influential 'Black's Guides' series, that was characterised through their coherent and "colloquial" style and lack of "cultural pretension". Beyond their small and succinct travel guides, A. and C. Black published a large array of works, including this beautifully illustrated series on counties in England: 'The "Charm" Series'. This series were characterised by their idyllic studies of little-known 'beauty-spots, ancient places, and pilgrim's paths', and for featuring twenty four illustrated plates reproduced from pencil drawings by a variety of renowned artists and illustrators. This set contains the following works: A first edition copy of 'The Charm of Surrey', published in 1929. This work was written and illustrated by the renowned English landscape artist, writer and illustrator Gordon Home. A first edition copy of 'The Charm of Lancashire', published in 1929. This work was written by John Cuming Walters, with pencil drawings by Frank Greenwood. A second edition copy of 'The Charm of Cambridge' published in 1933. This work was written by Sir Sydney Castle Roberts, a British author, publisher and popular figure around Cambridge, with illustrations by W. G. Blackall. Featuring publisher's advertisements to the rear of 'The Charm of Lancashire', with several additional loosely inserted small catalogues for A. and C. Black's other works. With charming illustrated endpapers to 'The Charm of Cambridge'. Each volume is collated complete with twenty four illustrated plates. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding with original dustwrappers, price clipped only to 'Surrey'. Externally excellent, with only minor shelfwear to extremities. Dustwrappers very smart, age toned to spine (as usual) with slight chipping to extremities, and the odd small closed tear. Bookseller's labels tipped to front pastedown of each volume. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean to 'Surrey' and 'Lancashire', with only the odd light spot to the occasional page. Heavy scattered spotting to fore edge of the occasional page, 'Cambridge', otherside bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. book.
