Le romancier Jean-Claude Gorjy (1753-1795) publie ici "un roma…n fort simple d'invention, qui contient des pages attachantes, des peintures vraies, un dialogue heureusement étudié, et par-dessus tout, un franc sentiment d'honnêteté". Protégé par M. de Villeurnoy, Gorjy publiera plusieurs romans du même goût, et terminera sa production littéraire en 1792 par "le pamphlet le plus téméraire, le plus mordant qui eût encore été Ann'quin Bredouilledirigé contre la Révolution : "Ann'quin Bredouille". Charles Monselet évoquera l'auteur dans un chapitre des "Oubliés et les Dédaignés", dans lequel il compare le style de "Blançay" au style de Stendhal. Le baron de Grimm résuma ainsi l'intrigue de ce roman épistolaire : « Le premier volume offre la peinture de l'amour le plus délicat, le plus heureux dans la vie simple ; le second, le tableau de tous les malheurs réunis pour accabler une âme pure et sensible. Séparé de l'objet qu'il adore par des liens que sa vertu le force à respecter, tourmenté de toutes les horreurs de la jalousie, Saint-Alme finit par devenir fou, et ne recouvre sa raison qu'en violant au milieu d'une forêt sa chère Joséphine, qui par bonheur se trouve alors être veuve. » (Correspondance littéraire, T. V, p. 563). Les romans « sensibles » de Jean-Claude Gorgy (ou Gorjy, 1753-1795), dont Blançay et Le Nouveau voyage sentimental (d'après Sterne) connurent un certain succès en France et Allemagne. Charles Monselet, qui n'hésite pas à comparer Blançay à un roman Stendhalien, en décrit l'auteur comme « un des plus intéressants [écrivains] qu'ait fourni la première période de la Révolution. » (Les originaux du siècle dernier, p. 229). Gorgy signera également Ann'quin Bredouille, récit loufoque et critique de la Révolution. On trouve entre les deux volumes un catalogue de l'éditeur (8 pp.), Collection de livres en petit format qu'on trouve chez LOUIS, libraire, rue Saint-Séverin, n° 29, à Paris. Pour la présente : Suède (2 exemplaires : Umeå et Uppsala) et, en France : Laon, Lyon et Brest. Pour l'originale : BnF (Tolbiac) et 3 ex. en Allemagne (Stuttgart, Göttingen, Halle).
