Partendo dalla riforma dell'opera lirica di Wagner e dalla sua teoria dell'opera d'arte totale, Gori passa a discorrere di Maeterlinck, Andreev, del teatro dell'Anima di Schuré e Claudel, del teatro dell'esteriorismo (D'Annunzio, Wilde, Péladan, Erdös), del teatro cinese e giapponese, di Tagore, Tolstoj, Gorkij, dell'Espressionismo, di Shaw, di Ibsen, del teatro borghese, del teatro dialettale italiano, del teatro delle nazioni europee minori (discorre anche del teatro dell'Islanda o della Lituania o della Bulgaria), delle forme rudimentarie del teatro presso i popoli selvaggi. Gino Gori (Roma, 1876-Sant'Ilario Ligure, 1952), poeta, drammaturgo e critico letterario romano fiancheggiatore del Futurismo, aprì a Roma il famoso Cabaret del Diavolo, realizzato da Fortunato Depero. "Nel gennaio del 1921 Depero è protagonista con una grande mostra personale tenuta a Palazzo Cova di Milano, che in seguito viene trasferita da Bragaglia a Roma, dove nel settembre dello stesso anno, su incarico di Gino Gori, inizia i lavori di allestimento del Cabaret del Diavolo, una sorta di bolgia dantesca frequentata da futuristi, dadaisti, anarchici ed artisti in genere. Per il cabaret, strutturato lungo un percorso discendente (a ritroso) Paradiso-Purgatorio-Inferno, Depero realizzò tutto l'arredo e le decorazioni murali. L'inaugurazione avvenne nell'aprile del 1922 ma, passato il primo momento di gloria, i tempi si fecero difficili e il locale fu chiuso, e con esso distrutto anche tutto il lavoro di Depero". (cfr. Volume in 8, brossura editoriale figurata, sguardie, frontespizio, carta di indice, occhiello, 440 pp. L'autore, attratto dal futurismo e per un certo periodo futurista anch'egli, qui si cimenta in una dissacrante e dissacrata critica letteraria. Notevole la stroncatura del Romanticismo e pure del Decadentismo che il Gori travolge con la propria foga. Il sarcasmo la sua arma prediletta, e non sono certo colpi di fioretto, ma sciabolate. Un inno poi, al Padre del futurismo, incensato per una ventina di pagine, per poi tornare al sarcasmo contro il seicentismo contemporaneo. L'ultimo capitolo, dedicato alle case editrici ed all'edito di quegli anni fa una sintesi di quanto si partorisca in letteraruta ed altre branche nell'Italia prebellica, sempre nell'ottica neofuturiscta del Gori. In bello stato, poche mende, piacevole e scorrevole, interessante.
