Soft cover. Condition: New. By: Franklin Gorin, Pub. 1929, reprinted 2025, 168 pages, Index, Soft Cover, ISBN #978-1-63914-618-5. Barren County was created in 1798 from Warren and Green Counties. It sits in the South-Central part of the state just above Smith and Sumner Counties, Tennessee. Many of its early settlers were of Scots-Irish descent. This book is not too different from other county history books of this era. With such topics as trade and transportation, labor, farming, politics, and race relations - all important in the development of the county. The reader will discover that the author has interspersed the text with the names of these early citizens and pioneers throughout the book and even giving many biographical sketches of various persons. The index that was created for this reprint mentions approximately 1,500 persons.

Includes a biographical sketch of the author, with portrait, by Ray H. Gorin, and a new comprehensive index by Lewis Gorin. From the Foreword, "This material first appeared as a series in the 1876 Glasgow Times, and was presented in book form by Lewis Gorin in 1929."
