Die Geschichte des österreichischen Theaters in Krakau in seiner Gesamtentwicklung war bis heute ein unberührtes Thema. In der österreichischen Forschung finden sich nur zwei Dissertationen, die sich in sehr beschränktem Maße damit befassen. Die eine betrifft die Beziehungen der Wiener Theater zum polnischen Theater, und in diesem umfangreichen Bereich bezieht sie sich auch manchmal auf einige Einzelheiten der Tätigkeit der deutschen Bühne in Krakau. Die andere, die die Theaterfamilie Megerle behandelt, also die, deren Haupt einige Monate lang das Krakauer deutsche Theater führte, schenkt den Krakauer Problemen wenig Aufmerksamkeit und, was noch problematischer ist, der wesentliche Teil der einschlägigen Informationen ist irreführend. Den Anfang echter Quellenforschung bildet die Publikation von M. Dietrich. Unter mehreren, dort zum ersten Mal veröffentlichten Dokumenten aus den Wiener Archiven befinden sich auch elf, die Krakau betreffen, darunter sieben, die sich auf das dortige deutsche Theater beziehen.
