Der Sammelband enthält insgesamt 28 Schriften, nicht nur juristische, sondern auch historische und philolog…ische! - Der Band beginnt mit umfangreichen Erörterungen, Rekonstruktionen und Noten von J. Gothofredus zu dem XII-Tafel-Gesetz. Danach die Lex Julia & Papia mit seinen Noten. Dem Sammelband vorgebunden ist ein ausführlicher Bericht über Leben und Werk von Jacobus Gothofredus. J. Gothofredus verfasste eine Reihe von hochgelehrten Schriften, er war ein Jurist von europäischem Rang. Jacques Godefroi (1587-1652), Sohn von Dionysius Gothofredus, studierte in Genf, wo er schließlich auch Professor iuris wurde. Er war in Genf auch als Syndicus und zeitweilig auch als Bürgermeister tätig. Er selbst war in vielen Gesandtschaft für die Stadt Genf in Frankreich, Deutschland und Savoyen unterwegs. 1637 lehnte er einen Ruf an die Universität Leiden ab.
