This book is an in-depth analysis of German writer Gotthold Ephraim Lessing's influential study of the works of classical Greek philosopher Aristotle, particularly his writings on aesthetics and literary theory as expressed in his 'Poetics.' The author meticulously examines Lessing's evolving interpretations of Aristotle's ideas regarding the nature and purpose of the arts, especially drama, as Lessing's understanding of the original texts grew over time. The analysis places Lessing's work within the broader intellectual milieu of 18th-century Germany, exploring how the author's evolving views on drama and aesthetics interacted with the prevailing currents of thought. Along the way, the book sheds light on how Lessing's critical insights and interpretations of Aristotle shaped his own dramatic works, particularly his influential 'Hamburg Dramaturgy.' Ultimately, the author argues that Lessing's engagement with Aristotle's ideas was central to the development of his critical thought and his position as a foundational figure in the history of German literary criticism. This book is an invaluable resource for scholars and students of Lessing, Aristotle, aesthetics, and the history of literary criticism. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Berlin, Verlag von Julius Springer, 1920, 8°, VIII, 363, (3) p., mit 213 meist farb. Abbildungen, Halbleinenband d.Zt. Erste Ausgabe!
