In Abfallhaufen sind dies je nach Lage z.B. Hirscharten, Kaninchen, Truthähne und Leguane oder Wassertiere wie Schildkröten, Fische, Vögel und Meeressäuger. In Gräbern kommen vor allem Hunde, Nahrungsbeigaben sowie Tiere mythologischer Bedeutung vor, in Weihefunden überwiegend Kleintiere. Bedeutende Siedlungen und Paläste nutzten mehr Tierarten. Mengenmäßig spielte tierische Nahrung nur eine geringe Rolle.
