Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: None, As Issued. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 228 pages. Published in 2002. Landmark collection of contemporary Latin-American art photography. One of the most important and most beautiful art photography books of its kind ever published in our time. The first and only edition. Published in a small and limited print run as hardcover original only that sold out shortly after publication. The First Edition is now rare. A brilliant production by Wim Melis: Regular-sized volume format. Pictorial hard boards with copper cloth overboards and titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by various contributors, THE Who's Who of contemporary Latin-American photography. You name him or her, he or she is in this book (until the turn of the 21st century). Curated with text by Wim Melis. Text by various other expert/specialists. Printed on pristine-white, archival stock paper in Amsterdam, The Netherlands to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the Nooderlicht Photography Festival, which was held in various venues, in 2002. Presents "Mundos Creados: Latin-American Photography". The ground-breaking European retrospective festival on contemporary Latin-American art photography. Produced as a handy reference guide to its subject, Wim Melis divides his book into two parts: "Mundos Creados I" and "Mundos Creados II", with an extended Epilogue. The exhibition itself was divided into four parts, as a "quadrivium", to make the rich subject more easily digestible. Collectively, they capture the vitality, diversity, and beauty of contemporary Latin-American art photography. Luis Gonzalez Palma opens "Mundos Creados I". So many names are not yet familiar to most reader-viewers, but their work speaks for itself. They will astonish, surprise, and delight. And of course, the works of Graciela Iturbide, Flor Garduno, Mario Cravo Neto, and Miguel Rio Branco are also here, in all their transcendent beauty and power. An absolute "must-have" title for Luis Gonzalez Palma and contemporary art photography collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on his Contribution by Luis Gonzalez Palma. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. The latter opens "Mundos Creados I", a distinct honor. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the Exhibition Monograph available online and despite its imperfection (slight pinch on top of the front board corner, but it's there) is still in fine condition overall: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: This pioneering book will probably not materialize again because all of the copies sold out upon publication, most of them spirited away by Rare Book library and private collections. A rare signed copy thus. Hundreds of plates. Some of the greatest artist/photographers of our time. A fine collectible copy. The print Birds have long been used as a metaphor for messengers of the spirit, an association that comes naturally for a creature that exists so comfortably between earth and the heavens. Under the gaze of one of Mexico¿s greatest photographers, they take on an added mystery that is enhanced by constant reminders of their frailty. Iturbide¿s magnificent work is solidly rooted in the world which surrounds us, yet is tinged by the fantastical spirituality of a Latin American vision. Signed by Author(s).…

Condition: Wie neu. Aperture, New York, 2006. First edition, first printing. Bodly signed by Graciela Iturbide! Signatures by this artist, who is living in Mexico City, are very scarce! Mint, unread, new. Originally shrink-wrapped in publisher`s plastic foil; only opened once for signature. Paperback (as issued). With texts by Alfredo Lopez Austin & Roberto Tejada. 220 x 284 mm. 128 pages. 100 black and white photos. Text: english. Graciela Iturbide was born in Mexico City in 1942. She began to study film-making in the late 1960s at the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematograficos. While assisting Manuel Alvarez Bravo in the early 1970s, she studied photography, and soon devoted herself to the art. Traveling to Europe around this time, she met Henri Cartier-Bresson, who became a significant influence on her work. This subtle yet powerful book of photographs blends evocative scenes from the many subcultures of Iturbide`s native Mexico with the artist`s own deeply personal, and oftentimes Surrealistic, vision. Iturbide`s work mixes history, lyricism and portraiture. She deals heartily with the issues of sameness and difference. Sun-cracked earth contrasts with playing children, stark walls with elaborate alters, everyday life with special celebration. These oppositions represent deeper conflicts in the nature of land and body. Although the work is black-and-white, beautifully printed in duotone, the bright red of sacrificial blood, the colorful skirts, and murals seem to appear in full color.***************Aperture, New York, 2006. Sammler-Exemplar! Iturbide has extended the concept of documentary photography, to explore the relationships between man and nature, the individual and the cultural, the real and the psychological. She continues to inspire a younger generation of photographers in Latin America and beyond. The award ceremony will take place 25 October, 2008 at the Hasselblad Foundation, Göteborg." (from the publisher) Graciela Iturbide was born in Mexico City in 1942. Although the work is black-and-white, beautifully printed in duotone, the bright red of sacrificial blood, the colorful skirts, and murals seem to appear in full color.***************Steidl, Göttingen und The Hasselblad Center, 2008. "With secrets drawn from her archive, Graciela Iturbide creates a curious world in which the human subjects we encounter in her widely-known portraits are absent. In asor, the human subject is the reader alone, dream borne, on a journey in which all places remain nameless, time cannot be ascertained, and the course is lost to the imagination. Loosely inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Iturbide constructs her intimate and contemporary extension of Lewis Carroll's classic tale without words, making equal use of the narrative and compositional elements of her photographs to startle her readers with visual riddles and quick shifts of perspective. To accompany a reader along this unlikely journey are six electroacoustic works by composer Manuel Rocha Iturbide. These works, composed over a fifteen year period from 1990 to 2005 from sources taped by Rocha Iturbide during his extensive travels, were selected by the composer in response to his mother's photographs."
