The author (an Edinburgh Dentist and Doctor) was SMO of the 1st Airborn division and was captured after the battle of Oosterbeek/Arnhem then escaped. Includes a short foreword by HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands. Green hardback with gilt titles to spine. Light to moderate foxing to edges. The book is otherwise in very good condition. Price clipped dust jacket in removable protective plastic cover is in good to very good condition with wear and tear and a little loss/chipping to the top of the spine and the bottom of the front panel. Radio Times article about Warrack's return trip to Arnhem years later for the making of a BBC documentary about the battle and his escape is loosely inserted to rear. …

At Arnhem, Major John Waddy commanded B Coy 156 Bn Parachute Battalion. Wounded first at Johanna Hoeve Woods and subsequently twice more at a Main Dressing Station, he was taken prisoner and ended the war at Stalag VIIA where was liberated by the Americans in the Spring of 1945. Warrack was ADMS of 1 Airborne at Arnhem. After the battle he spent a fortnight in a cupboard in order to evade capture and eventually made he way back across the Rhine with help of the Dutch resistance.
