Editio prima. Klein-Oktav (155x105mm). Sprache: lateinisch.

Quarter-bound Leather. Condition: fair to good. 108 pp. cover detatched, leather spine worn and torn , boards worn, at least 15 pages with annotations in Greek along side text, paper very good A scarce, early edition--predating Passow (1810)--with an interesting provenance: belonged to a German (judging by the hexameter in his hand on the fep) named deTeilitzsch and bearing the bookplates of two legendary Yale Classics Professors, Thomas Dwight Goodell and Thomas Day Seymour ( father of Yale President Charles Seymour.) "Salvini and Bandini were famous Italian scholars of the eighteenth century. Salvini was one of the committee that made the first Italian dictionary, the Academy "della Crusca". Bandini was well known as an archaeologist; I believe he discovered the Egyptian obelisk that now stands before the Quirinal palace in Rome, the place where the Popes used to spend the summer, which became after 1870 the residence of the king and then of the president of the republic. It had been buried where it was first erected by the Emperor August, who brought it from Egypt to decorate his mausoleum." --Anthony LoBello, Allegheny College.
