This copy belonged to Judge William H. White, as a front free endpaper inscription by his daughter, Martha White Sick (wife of Emil Sick, of the Rainier Brewery), attests. White is referenced throughout the book for his significant role in early Seattle history: representing the Chinese during the Anti-Chinese riots of 1876; his role in quelling the extra-legality of the Occidental Square 1882 lynching of three criminals sprung from the city jail, etc.Inexplicably scarce, with no copies appearing at auction in the last 100 years.
