4to. 10.75 x 12.75 in. [48 pp (unpaginated)]. Title in red & black, colour frontisp., numerous photo text illustrations, 36 photo plates. Embossed green suede leather binding, yapp edges, gilt lettering stamped on front cover, green silk moire pastedowns (minor sunning to fore-edges, sunning to spine), still VG bright copy, preserving all tissue guards. Second edition of this nicely executed photographic essay of the big game animals of the Rocky Mountains in and around Colorado, with illustrations of cougar, mule deer, bighorn sheep, coyote, and even a rattlesnake. Buffalo Bill replaced Theodore Roosevelt in writing an admiring introduction regarding the splendid images. The essay by Grant details how he and his wife traveled through Colorado, and the difficulties they had in obtaining the shots. Wallihan (b. 1859) and his wife would later be awarded prizes at the Paris World Exposition in 1900, and then the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair for their excellent photos.
