Hardcover. Condition: NF. Dust Jacket Condition: VG-. First edition thus. xiii, 145 pages, portrait 22 cm. green cloth with black lettering ; dj. Tape stains on boards. Dj in mylar, chipped at spine. Paper-clip rust stains on pp 31-45. Minor underlining to same pages. This piece is an autobiography of Rev. Peter W. Gravis. Gravi…s was a preacher of the Methodist Episcopal Church during the 1850s. After fighting sin and Indians on the Texas frontier he joined the Confederate Army in mid 1862. He served in Walker's Texas division, seeing plenty of action in Arkansas and Louisiana. After the war, he returned to his ministry until being placed on the Superannuated (over-aged) list in 1882, where he remained until his death in 1902. This volume was published in an edition of 1,000 copies, but only sold a handful. Most of the unsold copies reverted to Rev. Gravis, who eventually dumped them all into a landfill. This copy is reproduced from one formerly in the possession of Mrs. F. L. (Nannie Greene) Little of Comanche, Texas. It is an essential work on Methodism in the state of Texas, especially after the Civil War.
