Complete in two volumes. Fourth edition. With a portrait frontispiece to volume one. Containing the poetry and selected correspondence of Thomas Gray, an English poet, letter-writer, and classical scholar at Cambridge University, widely known for his Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard. Gray was a self-critical writer who published only thirteen poems in his lifetime, he even declined when offered the position of Poet Laureate. With memoirs of his life and writings by W. Mason. Previously held in the libraries of John Storer M.D. F.R.S., an English physician who became the first President of Bromley House Subscription Library, and Arthur Frederick Andrew Cole, a British barrister and bibliophile. Bound in full mottled calf. Externally, sound with rubbing and minor loss to the board edges. Light fading to the spines with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting predominantly to the first and last few pages. Contemporary ink inscriptions to the endpapers with previous owners' bookplates tipped in. Good. book.
