Paperback. Printed pages: 8. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Blue card wraps with tipped on illustration to front cover (creased to corners). Heavily sun faded to spine edges. Pages heavily foxed throughout. Rusting to staples. Inscribed by the author inside front cover: 'A.B. Lloyd-Baker, with the author's compliments, 23 July 1941.' The recipient was Arthur B. Lloyd Baker of Hardwicke Court, Gloucestershire. An extremely rare early publication by Will Carter and the Rampant Lions Press. Printed by Carter at the Shenval Press where he worked briefly from 1933-1934 under James Shand, before moving to Heffer's Printing Works in Cambridge in 1934. In his catalogue of the Press's output, issued in 2013, Sebastian Carter lists his father's first book as 'Baskerville's Preface', published in July 1934, with the same Chalvey Park address, the second book was issue in 1935 after Carter had move to Cambridge. The catalogue only records a single item published by the Press, but printed elsewhere (The Engagement by Bryan Guinness, issued in 1966). We have corresponded with Sebastian Carter about this item and he has no record of it, hence it's omission from the catalogue. The combination of date (Aug '34), printer and Chalvey Park address indicate that this previously unrecorded item is actually the second booklet to be published by Will Carter under The Rampant Lion imprint. A very rare item, WorldCat only records a copy at the British Library. . Overall condition is Good. Size: 4.75 x 7.25 inches (12.5 x 18 cm).
