Grinstead served as American Vice Consul in Hamburg; this, his first novel, concerns Salem witchcraft. Rockwell Kent's dust jacket design for Elva is a high-spot in the classical-heroic leitmotif of art-deco dust jacket illustrations. For a book that went into a second printing, it's unaccountably scarce; with dust jacket, rare. And although the dust jacket might look familiar, that's due to its former use in AbeBooks marketing collateral; by using the usual terms in internet searches, we have been unable to find an online image of the book. Dust jacket is now enclosed in a removable, clear archival sleeve. .
