Sehr seltene erste Ausgabe dieser enthüllenden Schrift. Nach der Trennung von Knigge und Weishaupt wird das von Knigge entworfene neue Ritual für die Illuminaten veröffentlicht. Nach der Vorrede und dem Zwischentitel "Illuminati. Dritte Klasse" werden zum erstenmal die bis dahin geheimen höheren Einweihungsgrade, der Priester und der Regentengrad, mitgeteilt (vgl. Engel, Gesch. d. Illuminaten-Ordens, 149 ff). Diese Grade waren im Wesentlichen von Knigge bearbeitet worden, der dem Orden von 1780-1784 angehört hatte.Trotz Verbots nahmen Wirkung und politischer Einfluss des Ordens zu. Die Veröffentlich dieses Bandes sollte den Orden bekämpfen. Grolmann war Freimaurer und unter dem Namen "Gradanus" selbst Mitglied im Illuminaten-Orden gewesen, hatte sich aber bald zu einem der schärfsten Gegner der Illuminaten gewandelt, die er nun als Landesverräter, Staatsverbrecher, Anstifter der französischen Revolution und Königsmörder bekämpfte (vgl. Allgemeines Handbuch der Freimaurerei I 562). "Im Rahmen seiner antiaufklärerischen Strategie und diffamierenden Kampagne gegen seine politischen Gegner sind an vorderster Stelle zwei seiner anonymen Werke zu nennen, die auch von ihm selbst als am bedeutendsten und wirkungsvollsten eingestuft wurden, nämlich 'Die neuesten Arbeiten' und 'Endliches Schicksal des Freimaurerordens'. Beide Texte sind repräsentative Beispiele für die reaktionär-subversive publizistische Tätigkeit Grolmans, deren unverhohlenes Ziel es war, jegliche oppositionelle und kritische Haltung gegenüber Staat und Kirche zu bekämpfen, die öffentliche Meinung gegen diejenigen zu mobilisieren, die vermeintlich oder tatsächlich angeblich staatsgefährdendem Gedankengut anhingen, und schließlich die politisch Mächtigen zu restriktivem und repressivem Einschreiten zu veranlassen.
