Der Band entstammt ursprünglich der Bibliothek des Stadt- und Stiftsarchivs Aschaffenburg und ist entsprechend gestempelt; Titelblatt außerdem mit Stempel des Würzburger Oberlandesgerichtsrates Hönlein. Äußere Kennzeichnungen des Bandes wurden entfernt (Reste davon noch erkennbar). Würzburgische Chronik und zugleich wissenschaftliches Hauptwerk des katholischen Theologen und Historikers Ignaz Gropp (1695 - 1758). Gropp, der 1717 dem Benediktinerorden beigetreten war, wurde 1740 zum Prior des Schottenklosters zu Würzburg ernannt, etwa zur gleichen Zeit begann er mit den Arbeiten an seiner "Wirtzburgischen Chronick", die er in vier Bänden in lateinischer und deutscher Sprache herausgab und die die Geschichte Würzburg während der vorausgegangenen drei Jahrhunderte umfaßte. Mit diesem Werk avancierte er nach Ludwig Fries (1489 - 1550), der bereits im frühen 16. Jahrhundert eine Chronik der Würzburger Bischöfe verfaßt hatte, zum bedeutendsten Geschichtsschreiber Unterfrankens. Nicht zuletzt aufgrund dieser Arbeit wurde Gropp als Mitglied in die "Österreichische Gelehrtengesellschaft" in Olmütz (Mähren) sowie in die "Gelehrte Gesellschaft deutscher Benediktiner" aufgenommen. Der hier vorliegende zweite Band der Chronik umfaßt die Zeit vom Vorabend des Dreißigjährigen Krieges 1617 bis zum Jahre 1742. Mit fünf Indizes, darunter ein Sachregister (Index Rerum), ein Personenregister (Index Genealogicus) sowie ein Ortsregister (Index Topologicus). Enthalten sind zwei ganzseitige Kupfertafeln sowie einer Reihe halbseitiger Kupferstich-Illustrationen sowie mehrere gestochene großformatige Kapitelvignetten. Der Großband etwas berieben, sonst in gutem, unversehrtem Zustand; Seiten partiell etwas fleckig bzw. gebräunt; wenige Blatt seitlich etwas knapper beschnitten (Text davon nicht betroffen).
