This book outlines the characteristics and origins of crystalline schists, a class of metamorphic rock commonly found below sedimentary strata in the Earth's crust. The author presents metamorphic processes as an equilibrium shift driven by temperature and pressure, along with the role of individual substance properties. Concepts surrounding primary materials and their unique traits are highlighted, as well as those of metamorphism and resulting metamorphic products. This title delves into how crystalline schists form within the Earth's crust, tracing their origins back to either pre-existing sedimentary rocks or igneous rocks. The book's most notable contribution lies in its portrayal of the crystalline schist group as equally significant to sedimentary and igneous rocks, challenging the common misconception of them being a subordinate class. It emphasizes the idea that the formation of crystalline schists involves the recrystallization of pre-existing rocks, leading to the development of distinct mineralogy, structure, and texture. The author highlights the role of temperature, pressure, and individual substance characteristics in driving these metamorphic processes. The book is a valuable resource for professionals and students in the field of geology, particularly those specializing in petrology and metamorphic petrology. It provides a comprehensive overview of the subject, encompassing both theoretical concepts and practical applications. Additionally, the author's inclusion of examples from various geological settings adds depth to the discussion and helps readers grasp the real-world implications of the principles outlined in the book. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. This book, a first attempt at a systematic classification of metamorphic rocks based on genetic principles, marks a significant advance in unraveling the natural history of these rocks. The author suggests a method of organizing metamorphic rocks based on chemical composition and metamorphic grade, or depth, in which they are formed. It represents a substantial contribution to the emerging consensus on the dynamic nature of metamorphism. A synthesis of decades of scholarship and careful observation, this work provides a valuable historical and scientific context for understanding the development of metamorphic petrology. The author, an expert in petrography, examines the petrological and chemical characteristics of these basalts using cutting-edge microscopic and analytical techniques. The book delves into the detailed mineralogical composition of the basalts, with particular focus on the presence of melilite, a mineral that plays a significant role in their classification. The author explores the processes and conditions under which these basalts formed, shedding light on their geological history and the evolution of the Hegau volcanic region. The book is a valuable resource for earth scientists, particularly those interested in igneous petrology and volcanology, providing new insights into the formation and composition of basaltic rocks. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. 4°, 104 S., 158 Abb., Kart. m. OU, OU min. gebräunt u. gebrauchsspurig, sonst tadellos.Tadell. EA. - ĞGrubenmann, Hans Ulrich, geboren 23.6.1709 Teufen (AR), begraben 24.1.1783 Teufen, ref., von Teufen. [.]
