In the contents at the rear of the work the names of the Paintings and the painter and the page it is contained on are given in English and Chinese. The same is true for the traditional Chinese paintings, Prints and Sculptures color photos. Inside the dust jacket flap it states the work has been edited by the Political Department of the Navy, PLA, China. A nice copy.

Xu Beihong (1895 1953), also known as Ju Péon, was a Chinese painter primarily known for his Chinese ink paintings of horses and birds and was one of the first Chinese artists to articulate the need for artistic expressions that reflected a modern China at the beginning of the 20th century. He was also regarded as one of the first to create monumental oil paintings with epic Chinese themes a show of his high proficiency in an essential Western art technique. He was one of the four pioneers of Chinese modern art who earned the title of "The Four Great Academy Presidents". From the preface by Wu Zuoren The works in these (six) volumes have been chosen from among his over one thousand richly varied traditional paintings, sketches and oils. All the paintings in this collection are highly evocative, their distinct subject is portrayed with great feeling and life. This book contains 100 fabulous, high-quality plates in full color. The book is bound in tan colored cloth with a blind embossed cover, with a finely textured white cloth spine. The oversized volume has pages measuring 355mm X 255mm, and it is in near-fine condition. The only faults are a very small nick on the bottom on the front cover, and a small, 6mm, brown spot on the top of the pages. The text and plates are in fine condition. The dust jacket is also in near-fine condition, and it is now enclosed in a protective mylar wrap. A very well constructed book in very collectable condition. This large book may require additional postage.
