Jean Guenebauld, médecin dijonnais, découvre dans ses vignes en 1598 une urne funéraire qu'il pense d'origine druidique. Cette urne est ornée d'une épitaphe en grec ancien : "Ici, dans la terre sacrée de Mithra, un tertre recouvre le corps de Chyndonax, grand prêtre. Abstiens-toi d'impiété à l'aspect de sa tombe rédemptrice" (traduction de W. Vollgraff). L'origine du culte à la divinité Mithra dont il est question dans l'épitaphe est toujours discutée aujourd'hui, W. Vollgraff le rapproche d'un culte voué à Aphrodite Ourania ( Vollgraff W. Jean Guenebauld, a doctor from Dijon, discovered in his vineyards in 1598, a funerary urn which he believed to be of Druidic origin. This urn is adorned with an epitaph in ancient Greek: "Here, in the sacred land of Mithras, a mound covers the body of Chyndonax, high priest. Abstain from impiety at the sight of his redemptive tomb" (translation after W. Vollgraff) The identity of the cult to the deity Mithras mentioned in the epitaph is still debated today, W. Édition à l'adresse de Paris donnant le nom de l'auteur. 2 planches dont 1 double dite du « tombeau et (de) l'urne » : armoiries de Roger de Bellegarde gravées à pleine page par Fr. Guene…bauld, fils de l'auteur et une planche double (tombeau et urne) gravée par Nicolas Spirinx et quelques figures sur bois dans le texte.Médecin et antiquaire à Dijon, Jean Guénebaud découvrit vers 1600, dans une de ses vignes, un tombeau de pierre de forme ronde, haut de 30 centimètres et renfermant une urne en verre, qui excita vivement l'attention de Saumaise, Casaubon et de Thou. D'après une inscription grecque grossièrement sculptée, ce tombeau était celui d'un grand prêtre nommé Chindonax. Ce monument fut donné par son fils au cardinal de Richelieu, et servit par la suite d'abreuvoir dans la basse-cour d'un curé de village.Bel exemplaire très probablement relié par Derome. Dos légèrement passé.
